Memorial City hosting food drive, pictures with Santa, and more this holiday season

Memorial City is partnering with the Houston Food Bank for a Thanksgiving Food Drive to help Houston families during this holiday season.

Hosted between Nov. 17 and Dec. 4, anybody can drop off food items at one of two locations in Memorial City Mall — the Guest Services Desk near the food court and at the mall’s west entrance near the fireplace.

The organizers are asking for any food that will help, including peanut butter, crackers, granola bars, canned tuna, cereal and canned soup.

“We are hoping that we have a successful turnout,” said MetroNational Vice President of Property Management Harry Hadland. “I think we’re going to get a good response. There’s a lot of generous people out there in our community that are willing to help.”

Memorial City is also celebrating the holiday season with a host of events, including a reservation-only photo opportunity with Santa; a Jingle & Mingle social event on Dec. 5; and Snow Fall at the Square Winter Wonderland on Nov. 27, 28, and 29 with one hour snowfall and live musical performances.

Although Memorial City has a full holiday season planned, they are committed to continue adhering to safety protocols to keep everybody safe during the holidays, Hadland said.

“We fully recognize our responsibility to make sure that we are doing our part with the pandemic protocols,” said Hadland. “At the same time, we serve the community and we know that there are a lot of people who are very interested in making sure that they can access good shopping, especially during the holidays.”
